1. Definition of Thermal Transfer Label

Thermal Transfer Label is one of the most widely used face stock materials in self‑adhesive label manufacturing. It is base paper coated with a thin layer of mineral‑based coating on one or both sides, followed by calendering treatment to obtain a smooth, dense and flat surface. The coating layer fills paper fiber gaps and covers rough texture of raw paper. Label‑grade coated paper is specially optimized for pressure‑sensitive label production, matched with different adhesive layers and release liners. It is mainly made of wood pulp, featuring moderate stiffness and good dimensional stability under normal ambient conditions. It belongs to paper‑based face stock, different from synthetic materials such as BOPP and PET films.

2. Main Application Scenarios

Thermal Transfer Label are extensively applied for general‑purpose product identification. In consumer goods industry, they are used for food packaging stickers, daily‑chemical product labels, cosmetic auxiliary tags and household commodity marks. In logistics and retail sectors, they serve as price tags, shelf labels, inventory stickers and shipping descriptive marks. They are also common for office supplies, hardware accessories and pharmaceutical outer packaging labels.

Nevertheless, Thermal Transfer Label is paper‑based material, so it is not suitable for long‑term wet environment, outdoor exposure or heavy‑duty scenarios requiring water‑proof and tear‑resistant performance. For those harsh conditions, film materials are preferred as alternatives.

3. Core Printing Advantages

First of all, its smooth coated surface delivers excellent ink receptivity. Ink can distribute evenly on paper surface without sinking into fiber gaps. Sharp text, fine barcodes and vivid graphic colors can be achieved, presenting high printing reduction effect.

Secondly, Thermal Transfer Label adapts to multiple printing processes. It works well with flexo printing, offset printing, thermal transfer printing and letterpress printing. It supports variable data printing such as serial numbers and QR codes, bringing great production flexibility for label factories.

Thirdly, compared with synthetic film materials, coated paper has favorable cost performance. Raw material supply is stable, processing difficulty is low, and die‑cutting performance is reliable. It is easy to finish slitting, punching and post‑press finishing like varnishing and hot stamping.

Finally, coated paper shows good stiffness and flatness. Finished labels lay flat after labeling, hardly curl up. It meets most indoor short‑term labeling requirements and balances printing quality and production cost effectively.
